Getting Our Grinch On
Michelle and I had a few last minute tasks to complete around the workshop before Christmas Day. One of those tasks was inking and painting some extremely-last-minute holiday cards for our friends featuring Dr. Seuss’s version of Scrooge, The Grinch.
On this Christmas morn, I won’t pester you with too many details about this very simple project. Suffice it to say that I managed to get about eight cards done before the deadline hit, all based on some of my favorite Grinch facial expressions from the classic 1966 animated special. I’m going to have to credit both Seuss and Chuck Jones for those.
Inked with a dip pen, then ink washed, and watecolored, the cards went out days before the holiday and I’m sure some of them are still sitting in giant sacks of airmail on a plane soaring above the midwest. So they’re guaranteed to be late. Hopefully getting some original art in the mail will warm (and grow) the hearts of any of my Grinchy friends who receive the card sometime after the big day.
Michelle and I recorded the process mostly so we could upload a video thanking everyone — yes, you too — for watching our art videos this past year. We really do appreciate the support. The link to the video is below. It’s a short video, so even if you take the time to watch me put these cards together, you’ll be back to opening presents and drinking cocoa in no time.
Have a wonderful holiday!
