As Cold As Ice
Winter’s been rough this year. In a lot of places, ice has been the issue. It’s dangerous. People can get hurt. Look at the size of this monstrous icicle that almost caved my head in when it cracked off the house.
The was the smallest chunk of a massive icicle that I could lift.
In my continuing effort to turn a negative into a positive, I thought I could turn this brutal winter around by challenging Michelle to another Monster Sculpt-Off Throwdown Showdown. The theme? Winter Monsters. For my ice-based monster, I chose a version of Jack Frost.
Working out my design in Clip Studio Paint.
Michelle went with another winter icon, the simple snowman. But she turned Frosty into a six-armed beast with icicle teeth.
As an illustrator, Michelle is a fantastic needle felter.
Then we each began sculpting the two adversaries. I chose polymer clay for mine, while Michelle leaned on her needle felting skills.
One of my favorite new sculpting tools.
We show how we made those icicle teeth in our Patreon this month.
These monster sculpt-offs are a fun way for us to de-stress and have some fun around the studio while working on our skills. There doesn’t even have to be a dramatic reason to call out a sculpt-off. I think the last time we did it, it was because a new Ghostbusters movie was hitting the theater. Drop of a hat, we’ll throw down.
We cover how I made that ice in our Patreon video this month.
In addition to the figures, we each took a hunk of foam and crafted a base for them to stand on.
Tried out a new snow recipe this time.
Jack Frost comes skating in on the ice floes on a frozen river, while Michelle’s monster snowman holds the line on the snowy banks.
The battle rages as the temperature drops.
If you’d like to see how this battle turned out, you can watch us put it all together in this week’s video. Until then, avoid the ice, stay safe, and look forward to spring.
