Every Witch Way

Rare to find a complete version of Which Witch? in good shape.

After years of hearing Michelle wax rhapsodic about Which Witch? — a favorite board game she purchased at a garage sale when she was just a girl (and the subsequent loss of that game to the ravages of time) — I finally found a complete version online and won Christmas for at least the next couple years.

Needle felting the cartoonish features onto one of the witches

And since we’ve been steeping ourselves in the creative cauldrons of Witchtober, Michelle was inspired to pull that vintage board game off the shelf and reimagine the game’s coven of witches as needle felted art dolls.

The ancient myth has been proven: Witches’ teeth are interchangeable!

While Michelle worked on needling the heads and bodies of Ghoulish Gertie, Wanda the Wicked, and Glenda the Good, I put my nominal sewing skills to some use and stitched together a trio of outfits.

This plump witch may have eaten a few too many kids

As part of the creative process — according to Michelle, anyway — was for us to play a few rounds of the board game. I enjoyed learning the game, and it did help get me in the mood to work on these cartoon witches, despite the 50-year old cardboard-and-plastic traps not always springing the way they were designed to. Michelle wiped up the floor with me twice in a row so I’m guessing experience might give you an edge.

The colorful board game still glows like a ‘70s disco nightclub

Over in the Long Lost Friend Studio Patreon this week, we put together a video and a photo post where Michelle outlines some of her favorite needle felting tips, some of which she experimented with for the first time with these witches. And the full video of the Which Witch Witches is up on YouTube now. You can watch it at the link below.
